New Kenwood HT Reply

I talked with Kenwood customer support about the rumor of a new radio to replace the D7AG. They said a new one is in the works but no details or ETA. I asked if the lead time was months, years, or decades. They responded that it should be out in "2010, possibly sooner".

Thanks for the info! I have been doing double duty with my TH-D7A for three years. I run it mobile digi/Igate (WW5AA-9) while at the office and in the airplane. It has paid for itself many times over! I hope it makes it till I can get a new version from Kenwood. I am surprised that none of the other manufactures have come up with a radio like the TH-D7.

I have a th d7a, works great. I had gotten it used, traded a gun for it . I brought a battery pack from batteries america, the old charger got yanked out of wall one to many times by kids and dog, so I went to battery sorce, surprized, the salemaswas knowable , got me a switching power supply for 26 dollars for it , has all the plugs you could ever want , and probably cheaper than kenwood charger , has variable power, and getting into repeaters with stock antenna ok with it , good radio. ? mine is the dual bander, know they have tri bander model now, are you talking about a newer mod than the tribander comeing out?kg4ymc ps. thought the menu had messed up , when couldn't get into repeater locally, I thought I had locked out tranmitter by mistake ( watch those buttons hi hi) but they just had it off for maintance, get into vhf and uhf, previous owner had used it was volunteer fireman so it is " open up " don't tramit outof band , but if emergecy ... so gonna keep mine.

I worked in the Kenwood booth and saw concept radios
of the new APRS HT. Dont know a part number but If I were guessing I would Say D71 (D7 and D700 now maybe D71 and D710) will have at least 2m and 440 but they are still thinking. More information will be released at Germany Ham Radio Show in June. Phil was showing of the deck of 4 concept radios. 2 versions had built in GPS 2 did not. one version had a menu selector bigger than current D7. Will have much improved TNC and many features like in the 710. But still alot of input being processed..If anybody has any Ideas please shoot them over to me at info@geosat.us

I'll be in line to get one as soon as possible! I love my TH-D7 and it has been a real work horse, no problems at all in over four years. I would say that the original rubber duck was a dummy load, but then I usually get one after market anyhow so it's no big thing. Thanks guys.

I've had mine for several years and I love it!! I've seen Icoms new APRS HT where they put a GPS unit in the mic, but it's $700 for the HT and the GPS mic. I'll wait to see what Kenwood comes out with, I've been very happy with every one of the Kenwood radios I've owned including my first HF rig (TS-120) and my current one (TS-570S).
