Stealth, the concept...

Many times I have read here and on the other portions of this board people who use ground mounted verticals in their back yard--cometimes painted to blend in and sometimes not--considering them "Stealthy".
Well my personal view on sealth goes a bit more than that. In truth quite a bit more. To me the true "Stealth Antenna" is one where you can bring a guest(s) into your back yard and ask them to find your antenna. And ultimately after looking around they just CANNOT. When all the time they have been looking at it but not knowing it.
Now that is a truly stealthy antenna.
Your thouthts on what "True STEALTH" in re to antennas consists of...

Stealth is a relative concept!
My definition of stealth is anything that is sufficiently disguised or otherwise change in appearance as to get past the prohibitting (searching) authority.
I "mind your own business" communities a whole lot more is stealthy than in the "concentration camp" communities.
Where I live stealth is anything that doesn't conflict with the airport (within 10 miles) flight path regs.

In my case it would be having a tower so tall that you would have to look real hard to see the 80 meter beam. (:-)

Well, there certainly are variations on that theme, and some people call stealth that's not very indeed.
I suppose my attitude is that I'm not prohibited from having antennas, but on the other hand, I like to keep 'em a bit lower profile. For me, that means paint and such, but performance counts for me.

RE AA....
I know you are making a joke....BUT...
IN THEORY, IF, big if, you had enough trees in the proper places along ones property line long enough and in the right places you just might be able to make a boomless aka wire beam if you put a loaded and reflector or director on opposite sides of your property.
you might even be able to put some kind of swithching system to swap directions 180 degrees.
And still not have the wire elements detectable if you are creative and think outside the box rather than traditional.
But as I said its just a theory, but hey--the conventional yagi was first a theory. ;)

Life's too short for me to be hiding things from my neighbors, or anyone else.

If my neighbors don't like the looks of my antennas, they can put up a fence to block the view. :)

Re LK...
Unfortunately, some people for whatever reason decide and or forced to live in places where there are very harsh HOAs in the purchase contracts.
Some areas take these restrictions very seriously from reading the posts here. Florida seems to be one of those states where Home Owners Associations will take you to court and 'force' under the law to take down your external antenna weither you like it or not.
I imagine there are other states and areas that have anti antenna nazi types.
Thus my philosophical question Stealth defined....

Thank all that is right and proper, I didn't have to buy in to any of those communities. The newly developed areas around Columbus, OH, had deed restrictions that specifically forbade, not only antenna, but stealth antenna. In their words any device useds also as a transmitting antenna.
I wonder would they have made you rip out an antenna hidden in the vinyl siding of a two-story home?
