I have an FT-301D that I need some help with.

Symptom:
On 80m the radio works fine and the VFO functions properly, but when I change the band selector switch I get 8998.54 (LSB) on the display in every position and I get no adjustment out of the VFO. I don't have anything to detect if the radio is actually transmitting on 8998.54 when keyed, but I imagine it is.

Cause:
In an effort to get a quick answer to this I'll swallow my pride and admit that I was goofing with something in a hurry. I recently purchased a Drake amp and was looking for a pin in the accessory jack on the Yaesu that would key the amp. I found the one I needed and things were fine, but the jump wire I had made for testing slipped out of the socket. In my panic for more power I stuff the wire back in, but I stuff it in one of the pin sockets in the Ext. VFO jack rather than the accessory jack. The amp didn't key so I stuff it in the one to the left and right of that pin before realizing I was playing with the wrong jack. I don't need a lecture - I know, "patience my dear Watson" - what can I say, new toy had me wound up!

That amp has 30V coming out of that relay looking for ground, so I figure I put 30V to something in that VFO and screwed it up, but I'm not sure what. I traced wires and looked over that radio for 3 hours tonight looking for an obvious problem, but I struck out, I can't find anything visually burnt up. I did find a couple of caps with some hairline cracks but I don't think they had anything to do with the VFO circuit.

Any ideas anyone?

FIXED.

For anyone who's interested:

The 30V output from the Drake was applied to pin 4 on the Ext.VFO jack, with the band selector switch on 80m the 30V took out the JFET Q705 on the premix unit. I replaced Q705 (2SK19GR) and it appears that did the trick.
