Thanks to all who responded kindly and with advice to my question "is there a doctor in the house?" Gave up trying to tune for awhile and just used the transceiver as a receiver. Yesterday I tried a couple of different bands (away from the 20M band, as I have 20M dipole connected through an antenae tuner). When I switched back to 20M, the meter needle moved! I tuned up, per the manual and the suggestions I received though this site. tuned up nicely. Waited until today to try to transmit. First listened to stations on the east coast (from Maine to Florida), south (Texas) and out west (Utah, Nevada, Washington) Didn't much luck breaking through the traffic, but finally made (my first on HF)SSB contact with a ham in Idaho. Got a 5 x 7 report!!!! I am on the air...now to learn code. Again, thanks

Hi Richard, Outstanding ! These Kenwood hybrids do not like to sit idle, all she needed was a little time powered up to get her going, plus a little cleaning. be sure to apply a little light oil to the cooling fan bearings. the radio uses common grounds via the screws at all the pc boards, be sure they are hand tight but not over tight.
