About 1 year ago I had book marked an internet site that taught code by hearing the sounds together with a screen that showed the letters as they were sounded. You could also choose the speed. I lost the book mark and cant find the site. Can anyone point me to something similar? Thanks

I find the fcc.gov site to be wonderful in this regard.
Here's what you do:
Look up your zip code to find other hams close by and contact them, see who wants to learn the code.
Get together with one or more of them and meet in person to practice code, sending back and forth to each other across the table using keys and an oscillator.
Do that ten times for one hour per meeting, and you're done: You'll not only know how to copy code, you'll also know how to send it; then, just get on the air and use it.
Make 5 CW contacts a day for six months and you will be gliding along at 35 wpm as though you were born using code.
Works every time.

Sounds like it might have been G4FON's Koch CW tool. Just try doing a Google search.

Steve,
I think that the reason why software training methods work (and I know you've seen many people fail at them but I think that they also work for many), in spite of their inefficiencies, is because it's so much easier to fit regular practice into busy schedules. It doesn't require finding a partner, setting up a sked, sticking to it, equipment, etc. The average person gets on a computer at least once a day, and it's pretty easy to steal 15 - 30 min to do a cw practice session. I think that there are plenty of people who can stick to a 6-10 month koch training program, who wouldn't otherwise get their acts together to set up a series of WB2WIK send/receive sessions, even if it would only take them a month to learn.
Anyway, my real point is that I think we need to bring the send/receive kind of approach to the computer training world with a virtual partner. You've hinted at this before, and I don't think that it's very difficult b/c the computer wouldn't have to be very smart. I'd be interested to hear more specifics on your training program. Some of us, including myself and perhaps DJ1YFK, might be willing to consider writing something along these lines.
73,
Marc

Finally, a hint in the direction of why you're so negative towards the existing learning aids. You're simply a jealous software developer that thinks he can do better.
So go for it - no matter what you come up with, you'll receive more objective feedback on your solutions than any "constructive" criticism you have ever offered yourself.

KB1OOO,
You're welcome. And you had it coming.
You just can't expect everybody to be as polite and positive as you are.
