Practice oscillator for paddles? Reply
by KJ4FUU on October 29, 2008 Mail this to a friend!
Hi:

Is there a keyer that would work as a practice oscillator for iambic paddles? I've seen plenty of keyers advertised, but none say anything about being able to be used standalone for practice.

My xcvr has a keyer that I can turn off the transmit, but if I'm away from the radio, I would like to be able to practice.

I'm not averse to building kits, if that's the best way of getting what I want (I would prefer a case to be available, though).

Most keyers have a built-in sidetone that you can use to practice. So, get whatever keyer you like and have at it.

Take a look at the whole line of keyers from MFJ.

There is only one iambic practice oscillator in production that I know of: http://www.mtechnologies.com/ghd/index.htm#keyer

I practice with the Logikey K5.

It has a lot of cool features.

I bought mine from Morse Express.

Add the PicoKeyer as a low-cost kit ($16 basic, $18 "Plus" ) with built-in tiny loudspeaker:
