US Interface - Caveat Emptor Reply

I ordered the On-Air headset from US Interface on 7-22-08. The Paypal ID# 92E64473B2304982R confirms Rig Technologies charged $39.95 plus $9.90 shipping, Total of $49.85. I RECEIVED NOTHING FOR MY MONEY! The half dozen phone call responses ranged from, we're waiting on the adaptor parts, The item will ship next Thursday, We can't fill the order and sent you a refund,However I was assured that all of the other advertised items were in stock. This is just an answering service so leave a message.
Recorded message: We're on vacation until 9-15-08. I called after 9-15-08 and got the same recorded vacation message. I sent 2 Emails requesting a refund, no response. Paypal will not handle an dispute over 30 days from purchase. I filed complaints with the FTC, USPS and the BBB. I hope that your ordering experience from US Interface proves more pleasant and productive than mine.

Some people are just deadbeats. In my experience, PayPal is worthless.

You've done the right thing by registering official complaints.

This stuff goes back way before the internet. I remember ordering an antenna from a company in Texas in about 1975 who advertised in QST. I figured QST (ARRL) probably has some sort of vetting process for advertisers, and I even spoke to the company on the telephone. Everything's in stock, everything's wonderful and the sun will shine daily until I get my antenna.

I sent them $100 by check. They cashed my check and a month later, no antenna. Two months later, no antenna. Three months later, their phone line was disconnected.

I filed complaints with USPO and everywhere else.

Did you ever get my $100 back? Because I never did!

I may or may not get my money back, but forums like this will warn hams and propective buyers to tread lightly. I've posted the same message to QRZ.com and QTH.com. In time the loss of revenue to US Interface will greatly exceed the few quick bucks gained by dishonesty.

::I see I'm not the only one who does that. I look up everybody and will not deal with any entity using only a P.O. Box for an address.

Word to the wise.

Some of us have legitimate reasons for using a PO Box other than trying to rip people off. My mail box is down a long drive way at the street. If I get a delivery to my street address of an item that won't fit into the mail box then I have to drive down to the post office during normal working hours, often standing in a long line to pick it up. I can get to my PO Box 24/7 to pick up mail and packages. Packages are locked in a large box and a key left in my PO Box.

Things delivered to the street address sometimes get soaked with the Wx and sometimes messed with by kids.

As a result I've gotten all my business mail, bills, and anything else important at the PO Box for over 30 years now.

Well that's too bad you have to look at P.O. Boxes from such a closed minded perspective.

Perhaps we use a P.O. Box because we don't have storefronts? (Mail order only, like Digi-Key.)

Perhaps our homeowners insurance won't cover customers coming inside our basement/garage cottage industries if they should injure themselves?

Perhaps we don't want SWL militia guys or other strangers coming over to our homes and scaring our wives and kids if we're gone somewhere? (I've actually had this happen on several occasions....)

Perhaps using a P.O. Box is more cost effective for advertising reasons than printing up: 31011 U.S. Highway 234 Northwest....

Perhaps we use a P.O. Box in order to gauge advertiser response. For instance: PO Box 87M for Monitoring Times. PO Box 87C for CQ Magazine. PO Box 87Q for QST. You get the picture....

Or perhaps a P.O. Box is just easier to remember or write down when used in radio advertising....

Remember, since 9/11 the U.S. Postal Service doesn't hand out boxes to just anyone. Even your mail drops have new, stiffer regulations than most regular business addresses....

Do you feel the same way about banks, insurance companies, utility companies and other services that use P.O. Boxes????
