I need to get digital audio from my T41 IBM laptop to drive my external speaker system, it only accepts
digital not analog.
The IBM only has analog from its headphone jack, my old
Dell laptop had digital out on the headphone jack and it
worked great with the system.

If you want digital out, you'll need to get a really good soundcard. What kind of digital interface are you looking at, TOSlink (fiber optic)? You'll need to look into a top-of-the line SoundBlaster PCMCIA or USB 2.0 sound card. I'd stay away from USB 1 sound devices, I had one, but I always seemed to have some buffering issues with it because the data transfer speed was too slow for the stuff I was doing.
If you don't mind me asking, are you sure the radio accepts a digital audio input? The only device I have that accepts digital audio in is a MiniDisc player (yes, I still use it on occasion).
