AEA DSP 232 Reply
by W3JTW on May 27, 2004 Mail this to a friend!
In 1998 I purchased an AEA DSP 232 TNC Controller. Shortly after I received it AEA went out of business and was taken over by TIMEWAVE leaving us owners hanging and in the dark. How many of you other owners of this DSP 232 TNC were left hanging and without any type of support from the company or the company that took over AEA?
I recently connected My DSP 232 and am using the program PACKRATT 2.0 that came with the TNC. However I am assuming I have to use the PK 232 mode as the DSP232 doesn't show on the program.
I have tried contacting TIMEWAVE but never received a response so I am very disturbed about this as TIMEWAVE seems to be indifferent to my requests despite the fact that shortly after they took over AEA they had promised to support the owners of the DSP 232 and any upgrades needed for free.
Can anyone here tell me if there is another software program written for the DSP 232 and if there are other programs out there that will work on the DSP 232.

I have a PK232MBX that Timewave updated a couple of years ago. I have had other conversations with the folks at Timewave and have found them to be helpful, knowledgable and VERY willing to support the 232.

Considering that they are manufacturing the 232 now, I am not sure why you are having trouble getting support.

I am not aware of any offer to do upgrades for free.

PKterm for Windows recognises the DSP-232 as itsself. Be aware that any bugs still in the firmware can't be fixed by software on a PC. Pkterm is 32-bit, while PakRatt is 16 bit (and 2.0 has a Y2K problem).

Timewave does have a firmware upgrade for the DSP-232. It fixes a Pactor issue, mailbox and a few others.

CSS and Timewave are two seperate companies.

John -

Timewave now provides a complete kit to upgrade the original AEA DSP-232 to the Timewave DSP-232 PLUS.
http://www.timewave.com/support/DSP-232/DSP232plus_upgrade.html

Basically, this provides the EPROM firware to address some minor bugs and add additional DSP modes.
In addition, an isolated sound card interface is provided for applications (present and future) that use computer sound cards. The beauty of this is that you only need ONE interface you to your computer and radio!!

I am performing an upgrade to a DSP-232 this week!
