John McCain ad on eHam Reply
by NI0C on May 5, 2008 Mail this to a friend!
I never expected to see advertisements for political candidates on the eHam website.

No more subscription money from me!

Adios & 73,
Chuck NI0C

Can you tell me where you saw this ad?

I would guess it was a google ad - but it would
be useful to know the URL that you saw it at
and also the URL that the ad linked to - as those
are the only ways I can see the ad and/or block
any ads.

I have seen it now - it is indeed a google ad.
We have limited control over the google ads.
I can block them and I often do if they are way
off of the target of ham radio but I can only do
that after I have seen the ad and it's url.

In general the google ads are very targeted but it would appear that the McCain folks have bought ads for many words if they are targeting an amateur radio site.

Thanks

George,

I saw the ad on the left side of the eHam web page in place of the column with links for articles, forums, etc.

So you're saying this was not put there by eham, but by Google? I owe eHam an apology, then. But how do they get away with this, replacing your content with their own?

It does not replace our content - it is below the links in the left menu area. Usually the ads from google show up as four text ads but that space can also run a single image ad as well. The google ads have proven to normally be very on target and require almost no work on our end in the four years we have been running the and they help pay for the hardware, bandwidth and other expenses to keep eham.net on the net.

Ad's? What ad's? Use Firefox and block all that annoying flashing crap and you wont be bothered with it anymore. IE sucks!

Oh look their is one asking if Oboma is finished now over under the left banner

Geee why not.

Hey today anything goes on the web. I have seen items that hams described first here on eham now manufactured by others commercially, yet they claim that its OK to steal others ideas. No wonder the intelligent ones don't post things on eham anymore.

I don't think Obama has a radio license.. matter of fact I know hillery couldn't. Wonder if the other guy does.

As long it’s not an ad for Barack Hussein Obama, we should be ok.

It's just not right, all of these liberals running ads on eHam!

|

Just kidding! If google is helping to pay the bills, and they get an ad space, then I guess it's ok. BUT I'M NOT KIDDING ABOUT BOTH OF THE CANDIDATES BEING LIBERALS! Ha

If you don't want to see the ads, then download the Firefox browser and add-on extension AdBlock with AdBlock filterset.g updater. I would not have known about those ads except from the complaint by NI0C.

I know that we don't rate Internet browser software on eHam, but for me Firefox is 4 of 5 while Internet Exploder is 3 of 5.
