Elk's stacked/ 2 and 440 Reply

Hi all

I have the need for a small footprint 2 meter beam.
I am thinking of stacking two elk 5 element (2/440)
beams.

Has anyone used them stacked? I used one as a rover, and it was a pretty impressive beam for 2...considering only a 5 foot boom.

I would assume that 40-48 inch stacking distance, and 75 ohm harnes will work? And maybe another 3 db gain over a single array.

Any thoughts?

You can stack them like any other antenna. The phasing and matching harness is a problem because of the dual frequencies. you might be able to make it work because the 2m band and the 440 band have a 3:1 ratio. You will have to do some computing on the harness and see if you can make it work harmonically.

It can be done, but the phasing harness may well be a l-o-n-g one!

Which ELKs do you have? My 2M440L5's boom is only 2 ft long.
