Bad as a mobile  Time owned: more than 12 months
Had this radio for abt 2 years. Worked great as a base then I decided it would be fun to have 6 meters in the truck. That was a mistake. No noise rejection at all, NB worthless, no filters, radio totally useless as a mobile. Replaced it in the truck with a 706 and relagated it to backup in the shack. Still works good as a base just not as a mobile.

Not for mobile use!  Time owned: 6 to 12 months
Had one of these rigs for a few months. Tried to run it mobile but without a doubt, has the worlds WORSE noise blanker. I even did the noise blanker mod but still worthless. Has a really good transmitter and is simple to operate but if you plan to go mobile with it, don't. You would be better off to use this rig in a quiet noise free location. In this enviroment it will do a great job!
Good luck.

Good Little Rig  Time owned: more than 12 months
I have had my Alinco DX-70TH for over a year and use it mostly camping. I have it mounted in a Pelican case with a MFJ 25 amp power supply and LDG AT-11MP auto tuner. Put it on a picnic table with a driven ground, 66 foot piece of wire and work the world. I have never had a problem with the function switch. I don't need the CTCSS tone for lowband operation so the switch being mounted on the bottom is not a problem. I think the review users are underating the radio as it has never failed me. (Knock on wood )
I love the menu set high-low power. Using an auto tuner is made simple by front panel selecting the preset 10 watt low power switch and keying down. I make quite a few CW contacts so the DX-70TH not having a built in auto keyer is a problem. This is the ONLY drawback I have using my DX-70TH. Even the weak noise blanker on the picnic table is not a problem. I have used a FT-857,FT-100D,IC-706 and a IC-703 with a menu driven set up and the 70TH is best.
Overall I give it a 5 for simplistic setup and operation and a 5 for knockaround durability

FB mobile rig  Time owned: more than 12 months
FB rig for SSB mobile, simple to use and setup. Appears to be well-made and rugged enuf to survive mobile or portable use.

Price fer used rigs usually much cheaper than the Yaesu/ICOM/Kenwood stuff of the small, portable hf rigs.

Cheers All!

A rig to make contacts, not to play.  Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I own now my DX-70TH for some month and did lot“s of tests like e.g. a Fieldday-contest, big and small antennas and so on.
The reason for me to buy it was, that this radio is easy to use, also without the manual. All important functions are self-explanatory. Also this radio has a speech-processor built in, not self-evident for a mobile rig. I like the switchable bandwith, in SSB AND CW-Mode, not only an AF-DSP which suggest selectivity! (like other mobile rig“s have). The TX-power is only switchable, not continuously variable, but that“s no problem for me. The sensitivity is very good, you have the possibilities to amplify with 10db, direct and to attenuate with 10 or 20db.

In my opinion today“s Radio Amateur has to decide whether he want“s to play with a radio or he want“s to make "only" contacts. This DX-70TH is definitely a radio for making contacts. Easy to to use and approved since many years.

does what it says on the tin!!!  Time owned: more than 12 months
Great mobile radio for hf/6m.
I have the origonal t version, 10 watts on 6m.
Have it now for 15 years, the multi function has its issues, appart from this the radio has performed exellently. You can pole through with the up/dwn buttons on the hand mic.
The basic well rounded tranciever works, works well.I have used it mobile portable and at home with no issues, the receiver is very good under most conditions.
I intend installing it in my car again for mobile use and have no reserves that it will still perform it's role in a stella fashion.
Highly recommended for mobile/portable, even as a main radio.
Regards Darren

Worked for me  Time owned: more than 12 months
Very good for what it is. Used it for years as a portable/mobile, sure its not a PROIII or a K3.
and yes it is lacking in filters, the NB just plain sux.
BUT it works well for a low end rig, If you want a lots of bells and whistles look elsewhere
If you want a easy to use basic radio then here it is.
