Great value
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

I have owned my 701 for about 6 months and am very pleased with it.
I use it predominatly for portable/holiday use and have all of 17M programmed in. There are enough channels left for segments of other bands of interest. I had seen the Alinco range for quite some time and did not like the appearance compared to Kenwood/Yaesu etc. I can confirm that the performance more than makes up for lack of visual appeal. The receive audio is excellent with plenty of depth and clarity, much better than the IC706 for example. TX reports have also been very good. Sensitivity and selectivity are also well upto scratch, better than 706 range on the lower bands for selectivity, sensitivity about the same. I did not want to spend too much on a radio for portable use, but could not find anything this size/cost with 100 watts all HF coverage. This fits the bill perfectly (well almost, would have preferred free running VFO - that option is available but for at least £100 more.)

Channelised HF with basic controls
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months

This radio has been very reliable, despite being limited to channel only operation. Used mostly on 40M & 80M, reports have always been very positive. Very good reception, even though has very few controls. The 100 channels can be adjusted to any suitable frequency very quickly. Its a bit large for mobile use, unless you have a lot of space in the car. These radios can be picked up quite cheaply in the UK recently, and I recommend them
